Japanese Screwdrivers by Job: VESSEL, ANEX and ENGINEER Picks

Japanese screwdriver makers are known for specialist tools: precision sets, hammer-struck impact drivers, offset drivers and stripped-screw tools. Rather than naming one "best" screwdriver, this guide matches each common job to the Japanese tools we carry from VESSEL, ANEX and ENGINEER.

Quick picks by job
  • Electronics and small devices: a precision set such as the VESSEL 9836 (36 pieces) or ANEX 900.
  • Rusted or over-tightened screws: a manual impact driver, VESSEL 240001 or ANEX 1902.
  • Screws that are already stripped: ENGINEER Screwzaurus pliers or a stripped-screw removal bit.
  • No room for a normal screwdriver: ANEX 6102-T slim offset drivers or the ENGINEER DR-27.
  • Electrical work: insulated drivers such as the VESSEL 202PS or ANEX 7900.
  • Lots of repetitive driving: the VESSEL 220USBC USB rechargeable screwdriver.

1. Precision sets for electronics and small devices

For phones, cameras, watches and small appliances, a dedicated precision set gives you small, correctly sized tips.

2. Manual impact drivers for stuck screws

A manual impact driver turns a hammer blow into turning force while pushing the bit into the screw. It is the usual tool for rusted or over-tightened screws on cars, motorcycles and machinery. VESSEL and ANEX both make one, with 4- or 6-bit sets.

3. Tools for stripped screws

When a screw head is already rounded, a normal driver will only make it worse. Two kinds of tools help: pliers that grip the screw head from the outside, and bits made to bite into a damaged recess.

ENGINEER Screwzaurus — screw-extraction pliers

Pliers designed to grip the head of a damaged screw. ENGINEER makes many versions for different screw sizes and situations. See our Screwzaurus (Neji-Saurus) guide to choose a model.

FAQ

Which Japanese screwdriver brand should I choose?

Choose by the job rather than the brand. VESSEL and ANEX overlap in precision sets and impact drivers. ANEX has more offset and box drivers in our range, VESSEL has the USB electric drivers, and ENGINEER is the brand to look at for stripped screws.

Do Japanese screwdrivers work on JIS screws?

Fit depends mostly on using the correct size and a sharp, well-made tip. See our JIS vs Phillips guide for where experts agree and disagree.
