Japanese Alternatives to KNIPEX: Cobra, Pliers Wrench, TwinGrip and More
แชร์
KNIPEX makes some of the best-known pliers in the world, and many people search for them by name: Cobra, Pliers Wrench, TwinGrip. Japanese brands make tools for the same jobs. This guide pairs five KNIPEX designs with Japanese-brand tools we carry that work on the same idea, and puts the published figures side by side so you can see where they match and where they differ. Where we could not confirm a figure, the table says Not confirmed.

The makers measure capacity in different ways, so read across rows with care. KNIPEX lists the largest pipe or nut the tool can grip; FUJIYA lists the maximum jaw opening. Wire cutting figures depend on the wire type: "hard wire", "iron wire" and "IV wire" (a Japanese building wire type) are different tests. KNIPEX weights vary between listings, so we left them out.
1. Cobra-style water pump pliers: FUJIYA Quick Water Pump Pliers
FUJIYA 140-250-BG — 262.3 mm, 51 mm opening, 25 stages
The Cobra's best-known feature is push-button adjustment directly on the workpiece. FUJIYA's Quick Water Pump Pliers use the same approach: according to TRUSCO, you press a button to change the jaw width, and the setting does not slip by accident. The jaw has a diamond-shaped gripping area for pipes and flat parts. TRUSCO lists plumbing, car maintenance and water-supply work as uses.
The same series comes in two other sizes, both with 25 stages: the 140-185-BG (185 mm, 30 mm opening, 180 g) and the 140-300-BG (305 mm, 60 mm opening, 600 g).
View FUJIYA 140-250-BG2. Pliers Wrench-style parallel jaws: FUJIYA Power Monkey Pliers
FUJIYA FLM-35-BG — 183 mm, 35 mm opening
A Pliers Wrench grips a nut between two flat, parallel jaws, like an adjustable wrench that you squeeze. FUJIYA's Power Monkey Pliers work the same way. TRUSCO describes jaws that move in parallel, with little play, so they are less likely to damage the corners of bolts and nuts. The lever action also lets you grip pipes and fittings.
Size for size, the FUJIYA tools open a little less than the KNIPEX models: 35 mm against 40 mm at the 180 mm size, and 45 mm against 52 mm at the 250 mm size. Check the largest nut you need to turn.

FUJIYA NSP01-150BG — 160 mm, 130 g, made in Japan
The TwinGrip grips a screw head from the front, which helps when the head is stripped or rusted. Japanese brands solve the same problem with screw removal pliers. TRUSCO says the Screw Buster's jaws have grooves that bite in the loosening direction and can grip rusted or stripped pan-head and truss-head screws. It can also cut copper wire up to Ø1.5 mm.

ENGINEER PZ-22 Neji-Saurus SE — 175 mm, screw range 3–9.5 mm
ENGINEER's Neji-Saurus pliers are made for gripping damaged screw heads. TRUSCO lists a 3–9.5 mm screw range and 165 g for the PZ-22. Our Neji-Saurus guide explains the other models.
One difference: the TwinGrip has a five-position slip joint, while these two Japanese tools have a fixed joint. For larger heads, the TwinGrip covers more sizes.
View ENGINEER PZ-224. High-leverage combination pliers: FUJIYA Offset Power Pliers
FUJIYA 3000N-200BG — 202 mm, made in Japan
High-leverage combination pliers are built so the cutting edge gets more force from the same hand effort. In our range, the closest match is FUJIYA's Offset Power Pliers. TRUSCO lists a 202 mm length, cutting of piano wire up to Ø1.6 mm and iron wire up to Ø3.4 mm, and a simple crimping section for 2.0–5.5 mm² terminals. There is also a hole for a tool lanyard.
KNIPEX lists a higher piano-wire figure (Ø2.2 mm) for the 02 01 200. If you cut hard spring wire often, compare that figure. If you do electrical work, the FUJIYA's crimping section is the extra.
View FUJIYA 3000N-200BG5. Cable shears: FUJIYA Cable Hand Cutters
FUJIYA 600-160 and 600-210 — 160 mm and 210 mm
Cable shears are made to cut stranded copper and aluminium cable cleanly, without crushing it. KNIPEX says its 95 11 165 is not for steel wire or hard-drawn copper. FUJIYA's Cable Hand Cutters do the same job. TRUSCO lists the 600-160 for IV wire up to 22 mm² and the larger 600-210 for IV wire up to 38 mm².
The KNIPEX figure (Ø15 mm, 50 mm²) is for multi-core cable, so it is not directly comparable with the FUJIYA IV-wire figures.

Match the job, not the name. Each pair above shares a working idea: push-button adjustment, parallel jaws, front-gripping teeth, high-leverage cutting or cable-shear blades. Start from the job you need to do.
Check capacity first. For water pump pliers and parallel-jaw pliers, the largest pipe or nut decides the size. The FUJIYA Power Monkey Pliers open less than the KNIPEX Pliers Wrench of similar length.
Check where it is made. All the alternatives here are from Japanese brands. Some are made in Japan and some in Taiwan; the table lists the country for each model.

FAQ
Are these copies of KNIPEX tools?
No. They are separate designs from Japanese brands that do the same kind of job. Dimensions, capacities and adjustment systems differ, as the table shows.
Do KNIPEX jaw protectors or spare parts fit these tools?
We have not found any maker statement that they do, so assume they do not.
Which FUJIYA water pump pliers size should I get?
The 250 mm 140-250-BG (51 mm opening) is the middle of the three sizes. Choose the 185 mm size for tight spaces and the 305 mm size for larger pipes.
