Which Mitutoyo inside micrometer do you need?

The right type depends on the hole. A 3-point Holtest bore micrometer is the type listed here for round bores. Caliper-type models measure bores and grooves. Extension-type models (IMZ) cover long ranges with rods. Every value below comes from the specification table on each product page.

Holtest 3-point inside micrometers

The D2 range is taken from its specification table (2.5-3.0 mm). Models with a D in the name before R (HTD) are Digimatic; the HTD-10R, HTD-12R, HTD-100R and HTD-125R list a data output terminal, IP65 protection and an SR44 battery (included).

Caliper-type inside micrometers

The IMP-30MX and IMP-50MX list a ratchet stop, a data output terminal and an SR44 battery (included). The IMP-100 to IMP-200 list a ratchet stop and carbide tips.

Extension-type inside micrometers

The IMZ-150, IMZ-1000 and IMZ-1500 list a spherical SR10 tip, a 13 mm head stroke and an accuracy formula of ±(3 + number of rods + maximum measuring length / 50) µm (rounded up). The IMZ-1000W and IMZ-1500W list a spindle feed error of 3 µm. "Not confirmed" means the product page does not state the value, so we do not claim it.

How to choose

• Small bores (under 12 mm): the D1 to E3 series cover 2.0-6.0 mm and the HT/HTD-10R and 12R cover 8-12 mm. Check the measurement depth: it is 12 mm on the D1 and D2, 22 mm on the E1 to E3 and 59 mm on the 10R and 12R.
• Digital reading and data output: choose an HTD model or the IMP-30MX or IMP-50MX. The mechanical HT models do not list a data output.
• Finer reading: the 3-point models list a 0.001 mm display, except the HT-100R, HT-125R and HT-150R, which list 0.005 mm.
• Deep or long measurements: the IMZ models reach 1000 mm or 1500 mm with rods. The IMP-30MX, IMP-50MX and IMP-100 to IMP-200 cover bores and grooves up to 200 mm.
