For plumbers, electricians and DIYers who need to grip nuts and fittings firmly without chewing them up, or turn an odd size without carrying a full wrench set. The FUJIYA FLM-35-BG is a plier-type adjustable wrench from FUJIYA's black-and-gold KUROKIN line. Japanese retailers describe it as a monkey wrench that can grab: 183 mm long, 220 g, opening to 35 mm, with jaws that move parallel.
Problems it solves
- An adjustable wrench needs constant thumb-wheel tweaking. The gripping faces move parallel and you clamp by squeezing the handles, so fine adjustment is not needed (FUJIYA product text as listed by Japanese retailers).
- Marking chrome or decorative nuts. Retailers list it as having little play, so it is less likely to mark bolts and nuts, and say it can hold decorative cap nuts without damaging them.
- Slow turning. Retailer listings say it lets you turn bolts and nuts quickly, and the parallel jaws hold the part firmly by leverage.
- No wrench of the right size. The jaw adjusts in 15 steps up to 35 mm (about 1-3/8 in). MonotaRO also suggests it for parts with two parallel flats, such as L-shaped connectors.
Is it right for your job?
- Good fit: fitting and removing pipe joints on water and gas lines (retailer use notes), plumbing nuts, finished fasteners you do not want to mark, and a one-tool kit for service calls.
- Check first: the jaw tip is 6.2 mm thick. In our reading, the tip needs a gap of at least that much to get onto a nut behind something.
- Not a good fit (our view): breaking loose a seized bolt where a correctly sized ring wrench or socket fits. Use those first.
- Bigger size: FUJIYA also makes the FLM-45-BG with a 45 mm opening.

FAQ
Can a pliers wrench replace an adjustable wrench?
In a Garage Journal thread, a member asked whether a pliers wrench is worth buying, mainly to cover sizes above a 3/4" combination wrench set. Replies were mixed: one said it is a great tool but not a complete adjustable wrench substitute, and another liked the smooth jaws that close parallel with high clamping force for not marring finishes. The FLM-35-BG opens to 35 mm, well above 3/4" (19 mm).
